Konichiwa! Or should I say konbanwa. I am back from a work trip in Tokyo - and summer was sweltering hot, too hot for any long walks, but despite all that, I managed to cover some bases, namely where I stayed, Shibuya (a shout-out to Cerulean Tower Hotel for the super-politeness and hospitality), Harajuku (how ironic this extraordinary road also leads directly to Meiji Shinto Shrine), Ometosando, Akihabara, and Shinjuku.
We landed in the evening so my adventures really started the next day.
There are lots of criss-crossing bridges and highways in Tokyo.
At the station.
Guess who? :D
It was a privilege to visit Kaikai Kiki, Takashi Murakami's art studio, which is rarely open for public viewing.
The prolific Japanese artist dabbles in many, many mediums; one of which is anime.
Me and Murakami.
He was super-friendly and energetic! So nice too, none of the so-called artist mood swings.
Long day. The party started when the sun set...
I LOVE this guy.
Can you guess what the new collection (available in Malaysia in October) is about? :)
View from the top. Took this while waiting for our turn to interview the great artist himself.
Work done, I took a late night stroll through Shibuya. Something out of Lost in Translation (I KNOW, such cliche, but it had to be said).
Akihabara, where the Otaku culture runs rampant. So if you are into manga and anime, here is the place that you cannot miss.
Our tour guides. Seriously.
Behold, a Maid's Cafe!
She will draw anything you want! This was a dog, but methinks it looks like a rat...
THEY SANG LIVE! I must admit my senses were overwhelmed...
On the bus, a view from the window of the palace.
Takashimiya Food Market.
I could just spend hours and hours here. My favourite pastime is looking for food halls like this, but honestly, Osaka was still the best. I wonder why.
Roads outside around Omotesando.
Night in Shinjuku:
And omg, culture shock galore: the red light district in Shinjuku.
Where we saw a "robot" show:
camwhoring in the very garish waiting room.
Whew. One word.
DAY 3: Ometosando
I love the little warrens behind Ometosando Hills.
Got such a great bargain in Kate Spade Saturday! Saw this in the changing room. How considerate right?
Mascot of a supermart. :)
Awwwww. Food packaging here is just amazing. You can buy and buy and buy just because. It's that scary.
Meiji Shinto Shrine
A toothy grin.
A beautiful wedding.
MORE food hall scouting.
A fish bid!
Ahhhh, I want to head back. That's all. :D
